  • Those fight of way bigger fish when they have babies. As long as they are a couple that knows how to care for their young.

  • It looks like the female has just spawned. Her belly looks like all the females I have used to breed after they lay eggs. They also eat the eggs for the first few times, ps they spawn in the evening

  • I had a couple of Rams, and they often had eggs. In my case they laid their eggs in the side of a piece of wood where na anubias was sitting. So they actually had a kind of protected ‘hole’ on the wood. Maybe it will help you!

  • Feed the fry after 3 or 7 day after hatching or once the yolk sack is gone

    Monarod88 RodriguesMonarod88 Rodrigues13 dagen geleden
  • Krib eggs take 2-3 days to hatch and another 4-5 for fry to become free swimming. So you fry are at least 4-5 days old.

  • Congrats on the new babies man! Its always such a great feeling getting egg laying fish to breed, it feels like so much more of an accomplishment then live bearers because you need the conditions to be more right for the fish to actually get them to breed vs most of the simple live bearers we all get to breed as beginners to the hobby. But i was the same way after i got my first apisto species to breed i went and got 3 more pairs of different type and was ALL about breeding hahah. I remember aquarium coop has a video i saw a while back when i first bred rams that i watched with Dean explaining his set up how to bred rams and we all know he is an amazing breeder especially with rams so id check that out. His set up is very minimalistic but what i did was his general set up but of course had the tank scaped out with plants and everything, Best of luck to ya bud!!!

  • My Ram pair laid eggs, but after 3 days nothing remained (the male was also quite angry at the female). :-/ Fed them frozen bloodworms and other frozen food every second day, kept the temperature up (27 °C is a normal temperature for them). There is a lot of flat rocks and hidden places which are a must (instead of a flat rock, Echinodorus works as well). Fresh soft water helps too. The signs are: full (under)belly of the female, visible oviparium (or how's that called), pair being aggresive to other fish.

  • the trick is getting them to stop breeding, you will be smothered in fry in a short time

  • Kribs are one of (if not my most) favorite fish. I've bred them several times and its so mcuh fun to see the typical big cichlid behaviour in a small fish. If you disturb them, they may end up eating the fry.

  • Wonderful shots. Looking great. I have also been breeding Kribs for a while and keep taking them down to the local fish shop as I have too many. I have found that they cope pretty well with water changes, cleaning and maintenance whist breeding if you are careful. Adults should take the babies to safety whilst you are doing it.

  • My problem with kribs is that they are such good parents that even in a full community tank there is a good chance of a lot of babies surviving. For me the only thing that would successfully prey on the young and cut their numbers significantly were older generations of kribs (or other similar bottom dwelling cichlids...can check my videos for young Steatocranus hunting baby kribs). But super fun to experience this and watch them care for them. If I remember correctly by the time they are free swimming and come out of their cave they are already almost a week old.

  • Those Krib's look great! With the Rams, it could be that you just need to keep the female on the meds a little longer. Internal parasites can take awhile to get rid of, and a week probably wasn't enough time. Obviously, if she's sick or has a sunken belly she's not producing eggs yet, so she's just not ready to breed. I think once you get her health squared away things will start to happen. I would put her back in the other tank while you treat the parasites for another week or two.

Rick From the CapeRick From the Cape14 dagen geleden
  • With the Ram I would bump the temp to 84 degrees and make sure mom has a place to hide from dad. If they breed they will get aggressive even to each other. They will push the sand and lay in it but they do prefer a flat spot. Also they look young and will need more time to grow before breeding. It is also easier to pair off if you have 2-3 females to 1 male. Loving the vids. Keep them coming and thank you for taking the time and posting

    PaidInFullPaidInFull14 dagen geleden
  • When your rams are settled they will start breeding. I haven't done anything special to get mine to breed. I feed once or twice daily and I keep their tank at 25-26c. Once the pair are settled and happy in their environment they will probably keep having babies every couple of weeks.

    SpiritSpirit14 dagen geleden
  • No way those platy babies are new born. My guess is they are at least 5-6 weeks old. New borns have very little color, are much much smaller and would never be swimming openly like yours! If they did they would be eaten!
