  • I can say, without a doubt, that asking someone whether or not they are depressed/feel like committing suicide is always going to net a positive result, no matter how they answer. Imagine you are in their position. If you _were_ going to commit suicide then maybe you'll feel like someone in this world cares? If you're not going to commit suicide then it's still always good to know that there are people out there who care. No matter what, doctors should never fear asking someone those questions. It's really sad that some do.

  • I'd love to see an episode on A Civil Action. I haven't seen it in a while but I remember it discussing a lot about the financial burden of a major civil lawsuit. I also seem to recall scenes of Robert DeNiro's character giving courtroom advice to his students. I've always wondered about how accurate it was because it seemed to get more into the nitty-gritty than your average legal thriller.

  • Interesting... what we are seeing in the opinions here are the difference between a professional litigator (ie, one paid to argue/prove points), and the other professional scientist (doctor). Many of the things the second says and does are empirically based, and similar to how I train my intern in IT. Admit fault, apologize, but come back with a plan to make it better. And, never, ever do an operation or cut without a back out plan.

  • In the future, if you wanted to collab again, I have an show/episode suggestion for you. ER season 1 episode 20 “Love’s Labor Lost”. Dr. Greene takes on a high risk pregnancy/delivery where OB was nowhere to be found and the mother dies as a result. Based on subsequent episodes, it looks like Dr. Greene is the only one facing a malpractice suit, but I don’t think he is the only one responsible. Would love to hear your insight on this.

  • So is she guilty for not bringing the letter forward because it would have allowed the plaintiff to then sue the company for damages? I mean he lost his legs based on their faulty product and that seems to be a huge moral issue with her just tossing it away. That seems worthy of a discussion all on its own.

  • Dr Mike I actually have a little suggestion for you to help you grow :) Instead of saying “commit suicide” instead use the term “die by suicide” because the word “commit” is derogatory and can imply that suicide is a crime even though in most cases mental illness is the leading cause (which as you know is a medical condition). I just finished my nursing studies and want to work in mental health.

  • Um... lawyers first advice is never admit fault, which is why doctors never apologize. As a survivor of a botched surgery due to doctors who were working the worker's comp system by one botching, the other "fixing." I ran into 6 other patients, same issue - Ruptured L4-5 disc, requiring a discectomy, and then a microdiscectomy, same doctors, same outcomes. Sadly, after the statute of limitations was up.

  • Spoilers for Suits just incase: - - - It would be amazing to see you react to Mike Ross's fraud case (where he is arrested for conspiracy to commit fraud). The trail itself is 3 episodes long (s5 e14 - s5 e16) with the backstory/prep for the trail beginning in s5 e11 when he is first arrested. A lot of it can be cut down to just focus on the trail inside the courtroom itself. But it would be super cool to see. (Also understand if not as it's a big commitment and effort. Love your vids!)
