  • I think it was brilliant that you let them "play" with the crush 24 hours before.

  • A great piece of kit. The vet is so nice. Would it be even safer to open the gates before lifting the head /horn lock so they go straight out rather than turning their heads back and potentially horning you (that's what she said πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚)

  • Hi,I have one question hoping you could help me if you had similiar problem. So recently one of our heifers calved and we noticed she had 2 extra teats with milk coming out of them. They are fully formed teats,we tried not milking them but she got mastitis and we need to milk them.Local vet doesn't also have any solution for it. So im wondering did this ever happen to you and how did you solve the problem?

    Laminati sLaminati s13 dagen geleden
    • At my work we just stop milking any quarter that we want to dry up. This will be one of the four quarters. For instance if a cow gets mastitis more than 3 times in a quarter we simply stop milking that quarter, yeah the mastitis gets really bad a quarter gets swollen and hard. But 9 times out of ten the cow is completely fine in her self , and dries off in the infected quarter after 2 or 3 weeks. This is on a 1400 cow dairy herd averaging 12,000 litres. Per cow per year

  • The high land crush-are you meant to open the bottom gates first and the lift the top part- it'd stop them throwing their heads round- iv seen beef cattle years n years ago knock a horn off and boy, do they bleed like hell!!! Just a thought??

  • Notice u open the top off the crush first Tom. When u do this the cows want to turn there head back putting u in danger. Try opening the bottom before the top then they wont feel pressured to turn round. Just a thought. Great video as always.

  • Are the highlands normally pretty docile? Is it mainly from their horns that's the safety concern? Sorry if those are dumb questions, I don't know much about farming or cattle, but I love these videos and learning something new. Cheers!

  • That's a great crush! I didn't realise the first time I saw it that it had side doors on both sides. That makes my initial idea of putting a three point link connection on the side absolutely useless. Sorry. Anyway, if you are only using it around the main farm, you wouldn't need to do that in any case.

  • Why don’t you take the opportunity of the dry weather to give the floors around the highland area and the the rest of the farm a right good scrape and a good wash down ? I know it’s going to get dirty again but it will be less to do and you might get that drain sorted out.
